The Organic Watergate | Synthetics Found in Organic Foods

By Dr. Mercola

The video above features Mark Kastel, the co-director and Senior Farm Policy Analyst at the Cornucopia Institute. The Cornucopia Institute, based in Wisconsin, acts as an organic industry watchdog. In his presentation, Mark raises serious issues currently facing the organic food industry, and how you can help.

Lawfully Tainted Organics—How Did that Happen?

You’ve probably heard the health conscious mantra popularized by Michael Pollan: “If you can’t pronounce it, you shouldn’t be eating it.”

The easiest way to side step synthetic food additives has been to simply eat certified organic foods. But we’ve seen an increasing number of questionable additives being approved for use in organics. There are currently almost 300 non-organic and synthetic compounds approved for use in organic farming or food production. The video shows a long list of such ingredients—all of which are supposed to have been carefully reviewed for safety prior to approval.

But just how rigorous were those reviews, and are these additives really safe and appropriate for use in organics? Mark rightfully points out that fighting for the integrity of the organic label is well-worth it, considering the fact that conventional foods are allowed to use thousands of synthetic processing aids and additives, plus residues from a myriad of agricultural chemicals and genetically engineered ingredients.

Research by the Cornucopia Institute reveals disturbing evidence showing that large corporate interests have infiltrated the process, and that the rules put in place to maintain organic integrity are severely compromised.

“… It seems evident that the people doing the supposedly careful scientific reviews and approving these chemicals have mostly been affiliated with the same corporate agribusinesses and the same food producers that are lobbying for their use,” Mark says.

“We thought organics would be different from the rest of the money-dominated corruption in Washington… But the corporations that have gobbled up most of the pioneering organic businesses are relentless in their short-sighted pursuit of profit.” Read more…

Anonymous: Message to United States Citizens [CISPA]

Petition: http://act.demandprogress.org/letter/cispa_passes?akid=1331.401496.hxiqqw&…

Greetings citizens of the United States.

We are Anonymous.

Thursday, April 26th, the United States House, in a rushed vote, passed the HR 3523, also known as CISPA.

Dubbed the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, it allows the United States to collect information about users of the internet. It allows the United States to monitor all activity on the net and can be used to monitor any individual’s internet usage. This monitoring is called deep packet inspection, it looks through everything that is going in and out of your computer, which is a blatant violation of our rights to privacy.
Looking through your mail is a crime for a postman, these rules should apply to the internet too.

The bill’s intent is to help stop cyber attacks… However; the vague wording of the bill could allow the government to use this new power to go behind privacy protection and monitor, censor, and cut off online communication.

President Obama has already stated that he will veto the bill, but this is also what was said about NDAA.

Together, we can stop this act. The time to take action is now. We have defeated previous attempts to censor our only platform of true honest communication, the internet. SOPA was only the beginning.

Sign petitions, call your congressmen, and kill this act in the senate.

We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not forgive.
We do not forget.
CISPA, Expect us.

R.I.P Victims of Monsanto Corporation

Do you or anyone you know buy food at Wal-Mart? If you do, you could soon be eating Monsanto GMO corn — unmarked, unlabeled, and untested on humans — with toxins built right into the plant’s DNA.

Monsanto has released their first direct-to-consumer product, a genetically-modified (GM) sweet corn containing Bt toxin, designed to protect the plant by rupturing the stomach of any insect that feeds on it. Monsanto claims the toxin will break down before the corn makes it to your dinner table, but rats fed with the GM corn showed organ failure, and the toxin has been detected in the bodies of pregnant women.Want to avoid this toxic product? Too bad – it will arrive on shelves unlabeled and untested on humans, starting with this years’ corn crop.

Consumers are fighting back. Thanks to consumer pressure, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and General Mills have all agreed to not use Monsanto’s GM sweet corn in any of their products. But Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest organic retailer, is holding out.

Intuit Out of ALEC; Coke, Kraft, Pepsi, too, while Koch Stands Ground

A stampede seems to be on the way as more and more groups break ties and dump ALEC.Intuit, Inc. (maker of Quicken and QuickBooks accounting software) told the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) that Intuit also decided not to renew its membership after it expired in 2011. That comment came from Bernie McKay, Vice President of Government Affairs. He gave this response when CMD identified that Intuit was no longer listed on the board and contacted the company. CMD began its effort to spotlight Intuit and other corporate funders and tie these corporations to the ALEC agenda when it launched ALECexposed.org in July 2011.

Kraft Foods also announced that it won’t renew its membership in ALEC when it expires this spring, according to an email from Kraft Corporate Affairs Director Susan Davison. These announcements follow on the news that Coca-Cola and Pepsi are out.

Intuit’s McKay explained to CMD that the company doesn’t “usually issue statements about membership in any organization” and declined to comment further. According to Reuters, Kraft’s emailed statement explained, “Our membership in ALEC expires this spring and for a number of reasons, including limited resources, we have made the decision not to renew.” Read more…

Federal agents raid Oaksterdam University

This really burns my biscuits. They came in pushed people around in walkers and wheelchairs, busted down doors and trashed the place like a bunch of thugs and mobsters. Is this how the federal pigs waste the American people’s tax dollars? These raids will not get rid of marijuana in California, it will only push it underground and back into the hands of the drug cartels. Maybe they are working with the cartels and this is another federal stimulus package. The drug cartels are the only ones to benefit from such actions taken against the citizens of California. Whether you agree or disagree, the people of California voted to approve the use of Medical Marijuana, enough said. The bottom line is the 1% doesn’t like it in the hands of the people, they want to control the industry. If they really wanted to address America’s drug problem they would go after the real drug cartel in America…the pharmaceutical companies. We have become a nation of greedy fascists pigs…oink…oink.

Corn insecticide linked to great die-off of beneficial honeybees

Bees are excellent environmental monitors, so does it really surprise anyone why the bees are dying? As so many other things these days we have some real problems that need fixing in our food chain and no real leaders on the side of the people to help fix them. It’s time for people to wake up and start demanding safe healthy food. Not food that’s tainted by GMO’s and poisonous chemicals. WE ARE NOT SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS!

New research has linked springtime die-offs of honeybees critical for pollinating food crops — part of the mysterious malady called colony collapse disorder — with technology for planting corn coated with insecticides. The study, published in ACS’ journal Environmental Science & Technology, appears on the eve of spring planting seasons in some parts of Europe where farmers use the technology and widespread deaths of honeybees have occurred in the past.
